- 1/2 yard of cotton fabric (in a color of your choice)
- 1/4 yard of felt (in a contrasting color)
- 1 package of gold metallic trim
- 1 package of gold seed beads
- 1 package of gold sequins
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Scissors
- Fabric marker
- Measuring tape
1. Cut out the fabric and felt pieces. You will need:
- 1 rectangle of cotton fabric that is 18" x 12"
- 1 rectangle of felt that is 18" x 6"
- 2 rectangles of felt that are 3" x 6"
2. Fold the cotton fabric rectangle in half lengthwise. With the right sides together, sew a 1/2" seam along the long edge. Turn the fabric right side out and press flat.
3. Fold the felt rectangle in half lengthwise. With the right sides together, sew a 1/2" seam along the long edge. Turn the felt right side out and press flat.
4. Cut the felt rectangles in half lengthwise. You will now have 4 pieces of felt that are each 3" x 6".
5. Glue the gold metallic trim around the edges of the cotton fabric rectangle. Be sure to overlap the ends of the trim by 1/2".
6. Glue the gold seed beads and sequins onto the felt pieces. You can use any pattern you like, but be sure to leave a 1/2" border around the edges of the felt.
7. Glue the felt pieces onto the cotton fabric rectangle. Position the felt pieces so that they are evenly spaced around the rectangle.
8. Enjoy your new Aztec headdress! Wear it to your next costume party or festival.
- If you want your headdress to be more sturdy, you can add a layer of interfacing between the fabric and the felt.
- You can also use other colors of fabric and felt to create a different look.
- Be creative with the decorations on your headdress. You can use any combination of beads, sequins, and trim to create your own unique design.
