How to Decoratively Cover an Air Vent

Air vents can be unsightly in a well-decorated room. In addition, while there are some companies that sell predecorated or styled air vent covers, it may not always be feasible to purchase one. Nevertheless, your options don't have to end there. Instead of hiding your air vent, decorate it. Craft supplies sold at your local craft store can quickly turn and plain air vent into a piece to blend in with the room's theme and style.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the air vent. Wash in warm soapy water. Rinse and allow to dry 24 hours before you begin decorating. This removes dirt that can prevent your decorations from adhering to the metal.

    • 2

Measure the length of each side of the vent. You should have two longer sides and two shorter sides.

    • 3

Cut your lace or material to match the length of the four measurements.

    • 4

Lay the lace or material pattern side down on a sheet of newspaper, and apply a strip of hot glue to the back of each strip.

    • 5

Set the vent vent side up on a sheet of newspaper.

    • 6

Attach each strip of lace or material to the corresponding sides of the vent making sure the glue and material only cover the edges of the vent.

    • 7

Use a piece of cloth to press the material and hot glue securely to the vent making sure to remove all of the air bubbles. This ensures the glue fits seamlessly to the vent.

    • 8

Allow the glue to dry before replacing the vent. This prevents glue from drying the vent into place.
