For Dryers:
1. Unplug the dryer and let it cool down. Before attempting to remove any melted crayon, ensure the dryer is completely turned off and has had time to cool down to prevent any accidents.
2. Scrape off excess crayon. Use a butter knife or a plastic scraper to gently scrape off as much of the melted crayon as possible from the surface of the dryer drum. Be careful not to damage the metal surface of the drum.
3. Prepare a cleaning solution. Mix equal parts of liquid dish soap and water in a bucket. Stir the mixture until bubbles form.
4. Scrub the affected area. Dip a sponge into the cleaning solution and scrub the area where the melted crayon is located. Work in small sections and apply gentle pressure to remove the crayon without scratching the drum.
5. Rinse thoroughly. Use a damp cloth to rinse off the cleaning solution and any loosened crayon residue. Wipe the drum until it is clean and dry.
6. Run the dryer on an air-only cycle. Once the drum is clean and dry, run the dryer on an air-only cycle for 10-15 minutes to allow any residual cleaner to evaporate.
For Clothing:
1. Scrape off excess crayon. Use a dull knife or plastic scraper to remove as much of the melted crayon as possible from the surface of the fabric. Be careful not to press too hard and spread the crayon further.
2. Blot the surface with a cloth. Apply a clean, dry cloth to the affected area and press gently to soak up any excess crayon. Avoid rubbing, as this could spread the stain.
3. Prepare a cleaning solution. Mix a solution of warm water and a mild detergent, such as dish soap or laundry detergent. Make sure the detergent is suitable for the fabric.
4. Hand-wash the affected garment. Wet the stained area and dab it with the soapy solution. Rinse thoroughly with water and blot the area dry with a clean cloth.
5. Check for stains. Inspect the garment to see if the crayon stain has lifted. If the stain persists, repeat the cleaning process or consider using a pre-treatment stain remover or rubbing alcohol (test it on a small inconspicuous area first).
6. Wash the garment. Once the stain is removed, wash the garment according to the care instructions on the label.
Note: Some fabrics may be more prone to damage if not cleaned properly. In case of delicate or expensive fabrics, or if you're unsure of the fabric or removal method, consult a professional dry cleaner for a safe and effective approach.
