You want to hang family photos on the brick above your mantle, but it's not as simple as hammering in a few nails. Luckily, mounting pictures on brick isn't impossible. The mortar between stones or bricks is typically a form of mixed concrete. Although not as strong as the surrounding material, mortar is still a very solid mounting substrate, provided that it is otherwise in good condition. Using the proper hardware, you can mount a picture to the mortar without fear of it falling.

- Masonry bit
- Sleeve anchors and screws
- Tap hammer
- Drill with socket fitting

Drill a hole to the exact same diameter of the sleeve anchor. Tap the sleeve into the hole.

Drive the sleeve anchor screw or bolt into the sleeve with the drill and the appropriate socket bit. Leave 1/8 inch between the inner edge of the screw or bolt and the drilling surface to account for the bracket or cable used to hang the picture.

Apply a slight tug to the head of the screw to ensure the sleeve is mounted securely. Hang the picture.
