Finishing Rafters:
1. Trim Rafter Tails:
- Use a circular saw to trim the rafter tails so that they are even with the edge of the roof sheathing.
2. Install Rafter Tails:
- Attach rafter tails to the ends of the rafters using nails or screws. Make sure they are flush with the bottom edge of the rafters.
3. Install Drip Edge:
- Install drip edge along the lower ends of the rafters. It helps to prevent water from dripping onto the fascia and walls. Nail or screw the drip edge to the rafters and sheathing.
Installing Fascia:
1. Measure and Cut Fascia Boards:
- Measure the length of each section of the fascia where you will install it.
- Cut the fascia boards to size using a miter saw or circular saw.
2. Install Starter Fascia:
- Start by installing a starter fascia board at one end of the roof.
- Nail or screw it to the rafters, ensuring it is flush with the bottom edge of the rafters.
3. Continue Installing Fascia Boards:
- Continue installing the fascia boards, working from the starter fascia towards the other end of the roof.
- Overlap each fascia board by about 1/2 inch to create a tight seal.
- Nail or screw the fascia boards to the rafters.
4. Miter Fascia Corners:
- At corners, miter the ends of the fascia boards so they fit together neatly.
- Use a miter saw to make precise cuts.
5. Install Rake Boards (Optional):
- If desired, you can install rake boards at the gable ends of the roof.
- Rake boards cover the ends of the fascia boards and add a decorative touch.
- Nail or screw the rake boards in place.
6. Caulk and Paint:
- Apply a bead of caulk along the joints between the fascia boards and the roof sheathing to prevent water infiltration.
- Allow the caulk to dry completely.
- Finally, paint the fascia boards to match the rest of the exterior trim of your home.
