How to Knit the Shape of an Armhole

Step 1: Knit to Underarm

Knit the body of the sweater until you reach the underarm. This is typically about 1” (2.5 cm) below the armhole.

Step 2: Bind Off for Armhole

Bind off the number of stitches indicated in the pattern for the armhole. This number will vary depending on the size of the sweater.

Step 3: Knit Across

Knit across the remaining stitches on the needle.

Step 4: Turn Work and Knit Back

Turn the work and knit back to the armhole.

Step 5: Bind Off for Armhole

Bind off the same number of stitches as you did in Step 2.

Step 6: Knit Across

Knit across the remaining stitches on the needle.

Step 7: Continue Knitting Body

Continue knitting the body of the sweater until you reach the desired length.
