* Fabric (1/2 yard for each box)
* Coordinating thread
* Scissors
* Measuring tape
* Rotary cutter (optional)
* Cutting mat (optional)
* Sewing machine
* Iron
* Fabric steamer (optional)
1. Cut the fabric.
Cut two rectangles of fabric for each box. The dimensions of the rectangles will be based on the desired size of your boxes. For example, if you want to make a box that is 10 inches wide, 10 inches long, and 5 inches high, you will need to cut two rectangles of fabric that are 20 inches wide and 15 inches long.
2. Sew the side seams.
With right sides together, sew the two rectangles of fabric along one of the long edges, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Press the seam open.
3. Sew the bottom seam.
Fold the box in half so that the right sides are together. Sew the bottom seam, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Press the seam open.
4. Box the corners.
To box the corners, bring the two short edges of fabric together at the bottom of the box and sew them together, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Repeat this process at the top of the box. Press the seams open.
5. Turn the box right side out.
Carefully turn the box right side out, using a point turner or other blunt object to push out the corners. Press the box flat.
6. Add a fabric steamer (optional).
If you have a fabric steamer, you can use it to remove any wrinkles from the box.
7. Fill the box with your things!
Your DIY fabric storage boxes are now ready to use. Fill them with your things and enjoy!
* Use a fabric that is strong and durable, such as canvas or denim.
* For the exterior of the box, you can use any type of fabric that you like, but you will want the interior liner to be something that is durable and water-resistant. A good option for the interior is vinyl or laminated cotton.
* If you do not have a sewing machine, you can sew the boxes by hand. This will take longer, but it is still a relatively easy project.
* If you want to make a box that is a different shape, you can use the same basic construction techniques. Just adjust the dimensions of the rectangles that you cut.
* These boxes are a great way to organize your home and add a personal touch to your décor.
