Cover your room in a monochromatic color scheme and add splashes of red for an intense visual impact. A monochromatic color scheme is achieved by layering varying shades of one color throughout a room. For example, you may cover the walls in dove gray, add pewter gray bedding and drapes and a dark gray area rug. A lipstick red vase, one or two throw pillows and a painting featuring a single red rose would stand out in stark contrast to the monochromatic color scheme.
For an over-the-top fun decor, add red to every possible surface. Cover the walls in a neutral colored paint and paint a red horizontal stripe around the room. Layer the bed with different shades of red bedding and hang drapes with red incorporated into the design. There's a simple trick for making a room with this much color look good: keep it clean. Because the color scheme is busy, all other elements of the room should be calm and uncluttered.
For a sophisticated space, add black through accents such as throw pillows, curtain rods, area rugs and furniture. If you want a funky look, add green. Green is directly across from red on the color wheel, making it a complementary color. The old adage "opposites attract" is the theory behind why complementary colors work in the same space and helps explain why they're such an interesting combination.
Combine red and snow white for a country vibe. Pair red with beige or cream for a French country look. Red and pink are a highly feminine combination, while red and blue adds a masculine touch.
