Dark Purple and Silver: Teen Room Ideas

Purple-colored fabric was once reserved for royalty and only the wealthiest of people due to its rarity and hefty price. Some still associate purple with royalty and power, though it tends to be a favorite color of many teenage girls. Decorate your teen's bedroom in purple and silver for a sophisticated space worthy of any princess.
  1. Walls

    • Paint the walls a dark purple color if the room gets a lot of natural light or if you plan to use white or silver furniture, which will prevent the space from feeling too dark. Alternatively, paint one wall dark purple and the other walls a silver-looking gray. Or, use a purple and silver-gray wallpaper print. Stripes or floral designs can create interest and won't overwhelm the room if you stick to a single wall. For example, use a silver-and-purple damask print on the wall behind the bed.

    Furniture

    • Plain white furniture will not detract from the purple and silver theme. Alternatively, use an upholstered headboard or novelty knobs, or paint the furniture purple if you have light or neutral walls. Use a crown-shaped headboard upholstered in purple or silver crushed velvet to play on the princess theme. Or, use chrome furniture against purple walls for a sleek, modern vibe.

    Textiles

    • Silver sheets with a purple comforter or purple sheets with a silver comforter will accent the room. Try a silver comforter with a purple embroidered floral pattern for a soft, feminine look that's sweet enough for a teen but adds some sophistication to the room as well. Silver beads can serve as curtains if you install shades or blinds for privacy. Alternatively, thin purple or silver material will work. Use chrome or silver curtain rods and finials against dark purple walls to make them stand out.

    Accessories

    • Use a purple rug, chair, lamps and picture frames if the walls are light, or use silver accessories if the walls are dark purple. Avoid using too much dark purple in the room to avoid making it feel dark and dingy. Line a shelf with silver vases holding purple flowers or silver candelabras holding purple candles. Decorate mirrors with purple decals, borders or frames, and frame black-and-white pictures in purple or silver frames.
