How to Make a Stewardess Hat

#### Materials:

* Felt or wool fabric

* Thread

* Fabric scissors

* Fabric glue

* Hat elastic

* Needle

* Thimble

#### Instructions:

1. Cut out a rectangular piece of fabric that is approximately 22 inches by 11 inches.

2. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, with the right sides together.

3. Sew a 1/2-inch seam along the long side of the fabric, leaving a 1-inch opening in the center for turning.

4. Carefully trim the corners of the fabric, being careful not to cut through the stitching.

5. Turn the fabric right side out, using a point turner or other blunt object to help push out the corners.

6. Press the fabric flat.

7. Fold the top edge of the fabric down 1 inch and press.

8. Fold the top edge down again 1 inch and press.

9. Stitch the folded edge in place.

10. Cut a piece of hat elastic that is approximately 20 inches long.

11. Insert the hat elastic into the casing at the top of the hat.

12. Sew the ends of the hat elastic together.

13. Enjoy your new stewardess hat!

#### Tips:

* You can make a patterned stewardess hat using two different coordinating fabrics.

* Add trim to your stewardess hat to personalize it. For example, you could add a ribbon bow, appliques, or crystals.
