Scrapbooking Ideas for Picture Frames

A scrapbooking hobby allows you to create books dedicated to your fondest memories using pictures and embellishments. However, the downside is that these are hidden unless you are actually going through the book. Bring those memories and pages of art to the forefront by adding scrapbooking techniques and materials to picture frames that you can display around your home.
  1. Art

    • Use your scrap booking supplies to make a unique nature image to encase in a picture frame. Use foam flowers, green sewing thread and paper cutouts to make three-dimensional flowers. A paper-piecing pattern helps you to make a colorful sun. Another option is to place buttons together to make an umbrella shape. Blue card stock topped with paper-pieced fish with googly eyes could be used for another nature scene.

    Shadow Box

    • Use flat items to make your picture frame a shadow box. Combine memorabilia such as concert tickets, stamped souvenir pennies or a map together with pictures about the experience. Place the memorabilia on a solid-colored piece of card stock. Mat photos in a different color and add the photos to the page with the memorabilia. Another option is to include black-and-white photos with whimsical materials. Add a black-and-white photo with large butterfly appliques on the side of the picture. Sticker trees, a tent embellishment, a camping photo and a felt sun could combine together to form a camping shadow box.

    Picture Words

    • Use a long picture frame to make a one-of-a-kind picture. Place a mat or solid colored paper in the picture frame for the background. Compile a set of pictures that are based on the same event or have the same color scheme. Choose a word, phrase or the name of the person whose picture you took in the photos. Trace around letter stencils on top of the pictures and cut out the pictures. Arrange the letters to form the word and glue them to the mat. You now have an original picture that showcases favorite pictures and a message.

    Collage Wall Art

    • Use a template or grid to organize your pictures and materials. Match the template so that it is the same size as your picture frame. Scrap papers, small pictures, meaningful quotes and memorabilia are all options for you to include on your picture collage. A white background works well with this project and allows your pictures and supplies to "pop."

    Frames Within a Frame

    • Create a work of art that acts as a family photo frame. Glue four patterned papers to the cardboard backing of a picture frame that is large enough to hold four smaller frames. Paint four small metal frames in coordinating colors that match the patterned papers. Insert pictures in the frames and use a strong bonding agent to glue the metal frames to the backing.
