How to Fix a Kenmore Dryer Door That Won't Close

Obstructions around the door opening of your Kenmore dryer prevents the appliance's door from properly closing and prevents the drying cycle from starting due to a detected block around the door's sensor. The Kenmore electric dryer has a built-in sensor that prevents the dryer from being used unless the door is completely closed, and it displays an error code on the dryer's control panel to alert you of the problem. A continuous door error on your Kenmore dryer requires a power cycle of the appliance to eliminate the error and restore use of the dryer.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the dryer from the power outlet, or press "Power" to disable the dryer's power.

    • 2

Open the dryer's door and check for clothing that may be caught in between the door's hinge.

    • 3

Remove some of the dryer's clothing to reduce the load's size. An overfilled load of clothes in the dryer prevents the dryer's door from sealing shut.

    • 4

Spray the all-purpose cleaner onto a soft cloth, and wipe the door's seal. Wipe the door opening with the dampened cloth.

    • 5

Rub the dryer door and door opening with a dry cloth to remove moisture and shut the door.

    • 6

Plug the dryer's cable back into the power outlet, and then push "Power." Push the cycle options on the control panel to select your dryer cycle. Press "Start/Pause" to begin the dryer's cycle.
