Verify that the refrigerator is plugged into a working electrical outlet. Confirm that the plug fits into the outlet securely.
Confirm that the refrigerator door closes securely and remove any obstacles if it does not. If the door will not close completely, even a small, 4 cubic foot refrigerator will not stay cold.
Adjust the refrigerator's temperature knob to the desired setting and allow it to cool completely for at least eight hours before opening the door. It takes time for a mini fridge to cool down to the correct temperature, and opening the door, during this time, only prolongs the process.
Confirm that the mini refrigerator is sitting evenly on the ground with at least a few inches of clearance from the back of the unit to the wall for proper ventilation. Check your owner's manual for details on the adequate ventilation distance as it varies somewhat between manufacturers and models.
Contact a refrigeration repair technician, the mini refrigerator's manufacturer or retailer if you notice any of the following issues: the back of the refrigerator is excessively warm yet the refrigerator will not cool, a chemical smell, yellow stains inside along the cooling unit or the mini fridge will not cool down adequately. Unplug the refrigerator two to three hours, before servicing, to prevent burns and electrical shock.
