Step 1: Remove the Old Headliner:
1. Remove the sun visors, dome light fixture, and any other accessories attached to the old headliner.
2. Use a flathead screwdriver to carefully pry off the trim pieces around the headliner.
3. Slowly pull down the old headliner by carefully unhooking it from the metal clips around the edges.
4. Remove any remaining staples or fasteners.
Step 2: Prepare the Surface:
1. Sand down any rough edges or imperfections on the metal roof of the car.
2. Clean the surface thoroughly to ensure good adhesion for the new headliner.
Step 3: Cut the New Headliner:
1. Measure the dimensions of the headliner area. Cut the new headliner material accordingly, leaving a few inches of extra material around the edges.
Step 4: Apply Spray Adhesive:
1. Apply spray adhesive evenly to the exposed roof surface, working in small sections at a time.
2. Follow the instructions on the spray adhesive can for proper application and drying time.
Step 5: Install the New Headliner:
1. Position the new headliner material in place, lining up the edges carefully.
2. Gently press the headliner into place, smoothing out any wrinkles as you go.
3. Use a flathead screwdriver to help tuck the edges of the headliner into the metal clips around the perimeter.
4. Continue applying spray adhesive and securing the headliner until the entire roof is covered.
5. Make sure the headliner is taut and free from bubbles or creases.
Step 6: Reinstall Accessories:
1. Once the headliner is securely installed, reinstall the dome light fixture, sun visors, and any other accessories you removed earlier.
Step 7: Allow Time to Set:
1. Let the spray adhesive cure and set completely before moving or driving the car.
Remember, installing a headliner can be a challenging task, and it's advisable to enlist the help of a friend or have it professionally installed if you are unsure about any step.
