How to Unclog Lint From a Drain

Lint can accumulate in drains and cause clogs, especially in areas where laundry is done frequently. Here are some steps you can follow to unclog lint from a drain:

1. Gather Materials:

- Plunger

- Boiling Water

- Baking Soda

- Vinegar

2. Prepare the Drain:

- Remove the drain cover or stopper if possible.

- Place a bucket or basin underneath the drain to catch any water or debris.

3. Use a Plunger:

- Ensure the plunger's cup completely covers the drain opening.

- Apply downward pressure and then quickly pull up to create a suction.

- Repeat this action several times to try and dislodge the lint.

4. Pour Boiling Water:

- Bring water to a boil and carefully pour it down the drain.

- Wait a few minutes for the hot water to dissolve any buildup.

- Repeat this step if necessary.

5. Baking Soda and Vinegar Solution:

- Pour 1/2 cup of baking soda into the drain followed by 1/2 cup of vinegar.

- Allow the mixture to sit for about 15-30 minutes to let it fizz and react.

- After the reaction, pour boiling water down the drain.

- This combination can help dissolve the lint and clear the clog.

6. Use a Drain Snake:

- If the above methods don't work, consider using a drain snake.

- Insert the snake into the drain and turn the handle to advance it.

- Continue until you feel resistance or reach the clog.

- Pull out the snake carefully, removing any lint that may be attached to it.

7. Check the Lint Trap:

- If the clog is in a washing machine drain, check the lint trap.

- Clean the lint trap thoroughly and dispose of the lint.

8. Professional Help:

- If the clog persists, it may be necessary to call in a professional plumber for further assistance.

Remember to take safety precautions when working with boiling water and cleaning solutions. Always let the drain cool down completely before attempting to work on it.
