How to Replace the Burner on a Kenmore Electric Countertop Glass-Top Stove

Kenmore electric stoves with a glass top use a coiled element mounted beneath the surface to radiate heat upward. This makes cleanup easier and gives the appliance a sleek appearance. If you need to replace a burner, you have to raise the glass surface at an angle to gain access to the elements underneath. Use caution when working on the underside of the glass top, which has sharp edges.

Instructions

    • 1

Shut off the electricity to the Kenmore range at the circuit breaker.

    • 2

Pull open the oven door to locate the screws on the upper edge of the door frame. Take out these screws with a screwdriver.

    • 3

Lift the glass top with both hands and prop it up with the wooden dowel between the top of the Kenmore and the bottom of the glass top.

    • 4

Detach the screws holding the metal bowl over the element to be replaced. Lift off the bowl, which is an insulated support bracket for the element.

    • 5

Disconnect the burner element from the electrical socket by pulling straight out. Plug in the new burner in the same position.

    • 6

Attach the metal bowl over the new burner with the screws.

    • 7

Take out the wooden dowel and lower the glass surface to the top of the Kenmore with both hands.

    • 8

Secure the top to the front panel of the appliance with screws in the underside of the door frame. Shut the oven door.

    • 9

Switch on the circuit breaker to restore power to the Kenmore.
