How to Troubleshoot Frigidaire Window ACs

Frigidaire window-mounted air conditioners offer an easy-to-clean filter, remote control, a variety of cool settings, multi-speed fan and reduced energy usage. The units are sold online as well as in some home retail or heating and cooling supply stores and are sold with a limited warranty. While this warranty may be necessary in certain cases of service or repair, less serious issues can often be resolved through troubleshooting steps by the homeowner.

Instructions

    • 1

Push the power cord on the Frigidaire air conditioner firmly into a power outlet if the air conditioner does not operate. Replace or reset the circuit breaker or fuse and verify that the main control is turned on.

    • 2

Set the thermostat temperature at least 10 degrees below the room temperature if the air does not feel cold enough. Note that the unit may not operate well if the room temperature is below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Check the temperature sensing element, which is positioned behind the air filter, and straighten the element away from the condenser coil.

    • 3

Disconnect power to the air conditioner if the unit is not cooling or operating well. Push the handle on the front of the unit to "Vent Closed" and pull open the front access panel. Hold the filter in the center and pull up and out to remove. Wash with warm, soapy water and rinse well. Shake out excess water and allow the filter to air dry before setting it back into the air conditioner. The tabs on the filter should be on the top part of the filter, facing outward.

    • 4

Defrost the air conditioner if ice develops on the condenser coil, which may happen if the unit is operated when the room temperature is below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Turn the unit to "Fan Only" and set towels underneath the unit. When the ice has defrosted, set the temperature control to a warmer setting.

    • 5

Set the fan speed to a higher setting if the air conditioner turns on and off quickly and the outside temperature is particularly high.

    • 6

Replace the batteries in the remote control if the remote control does not activate or control the air conditioner. Set the "-" end of each battery in the end of the battery compartment marked "-" and push each battery firmly into the compartment. Close the battery compartment.
