Pajamas are a cozy and comfortable way to relax at home. With a little bit of sewing skills, you can make your own adult footed pajamas that are both stylish and practical.
- 2 yards of lightweight cotton fabric (such as flannel or cotton jersey)
- 1/2 yard of coordinating fabric for the cuffs
- 1 spool of thread
- 1/4 inch elastic (for the waistband and ankles)
- Sewing machine
- Scissors
- Tape measure
- Fabric marker
- Pins
#### Step 1: Cut out the fabric pieces
- Cut out the following pieces from the cotton fabric:
- 2 front bodice pieces
- 2 back bodice pieces
- 2 sleeves
- 2 pant legs
- Cut out the following pieces from the coordinating fabric:
- 2 cuff pieces
- With right sides together, sew the front and back bodice pieces along the shoulder seams.
- Press the shoulder seams open.
- With right sides together, sew the sleeves to the armholes.
- Press the sleeve seams open.
- With right sides together, sew the pant legs along the inseam.
- Press the inseam open.
- Fold the cuff pieces in half lengthwise, wrong sides together.
- Sew the cuff pieces along the long edge.
- Turn the cuff pieces right side out and press flat.
- Sew the cuffs to the sleeves and pant legs, matching the raw edges.
- With right sides together, sew the side seams of the pajamas, from the underarm to the hem.
- Press the side seams open.
- Cut a piece of elastic that is the same length as your waist measurement.
- Sew the ends of the elastic together to form a loop.
- Encase the elastic in a strip of fabric that is about 2 inches wide and long enough to wrap around your waist.
- Sew the ends of the fabric strip together to form a casing.
- Insert the elastic into the casing and sew the casing closed.
- Attach the waistband to the pajamas at the waistline.
- Cut two pieces of elastic that are each about 12 inches long.
- Sew the ends of each piece of elastic together to form a loop.
- Insert the elastic loops into the hems of the pant legs.
- Stitch the elastic loops in place.
Your adult footed pajamas are now complete! Enjoy wearing them on a cold winter night.
