How to Locate Ant Colonies

If you have a problem with ants in your home, it is important to find out where they are coming from so you can stop them. The ants will come into your home in search of food and then take the food back to their colonies. If you can follow the ants, you can find where they live and take steps to kill them inside the colony, along with their queen.

• Jelly, honey or other sweet food
• Index card

     Dribble a small amount of jelly, honey or other sweet substance onto an index card.

     Place the index card in a spot where you have seen ants in the past. Ants often return to the same place to find food.

     Watch the index card for signs of ants. When ants appear and eat the food from the index card, follow them back to their colony. Ants typically take the same route from the food source to their colony.
