Drain the gas-oil mixture into a safe container for reuse. Drain the chain lubricant into another container. The cap for this lubricant is toward the front of the saw on the left side when looking from behind.
Move the master control lever to "Stop" to prevent accidental starting. Push the hand guard forward to lock the chain. Loosen the three shroud screws on top of the chainsaw and remove the shroud.
Remove the spark plug wire from the spark plug, and remove the spark plug using a ratchet wrench fitted with a spark plug socket. Store the spark plug in clean, dry location.
Remove the chain sprocket cover on the side of the saw using the tool that came with your chainsaw. There are two nuts that turn counterclockwise to remove the cover.
Loosen the tensioner screws that keep the bar pushed forward and the chain tight. They loosen by turning counterclockwise. Remove the bar and chain.
Remove the air filter from the rear of the saw by pushing its retaining clip up and to the rear of the saw. This will expose the carburetor and other key parts.
Remove the fan housing by removing the four screws that hold it on. This is just below the pull cord used for starting your saw.
Take off the chain sprocket that turns the chain. It has a small retaining clip that holds it and a small, flat-head screwdriver will release this clip. Remove the entire assembly and keep together for easy reinstall.
Remove the chain brake bar using a socket that matches the nuts on each side of the chassis. Remove the bumper spike which extends next to the bar by loosening its screws.
Take off the handle bar that is bolted to the chassis. Store its bolts and washers together.
Remove the muffler located toward the front of the saw by removing its screws. Remove the screen from the front of the muffler, then the rest of the muffler.
Take the back handle off using a socket. The saw is now largely apart. If you need to rebuild the motor, the relevant parts are completely exposed and ready for your attention.
