How to Clean a Poulon Leaf Blower Carburetor

The carburetor's job in a Poulan leaf blower is to combine gas and air to make a combustible mixture and control the engine speed. Check your Poulan leaf blower for a dirty carburetor if you notice the leaf blower not starting or lacking power. Cleaning your Poulan leaf blower's carburetor is not difficult but does require disassembly of part of the engine. Pay close attention to how each part sits in the Poulan leaf blower while you are taking it apart. This will make it easier to put it all back together.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Set the Poulan leaf blower on a flat surface. Open the air filter cover by pushing the button located near the handle. Remove the air filter. You will now see the covering of the carburetor.

    • 2

Use an Allen key to remove the screws in the carburetor cover. Take the cover off the Poulan leaf blower. The carburetor is now exposed.

    • 3

Loosen the gas cap so there will be no pressure in the gas lines leading to the carburetor. Remove the gas lines from the carburetor and set the carburetor on a rag, with the red bulb facing up.

    • 4

Remove the two screws from the top of the carburetor. Set the top aside. Flip the carburetor upside down and remove the two screws holding the bottom on. Set the bottom aside. Take the diaphragm off the bottom of the carburetor. The diaphragm should be pliable. If it is not, replace it with a new one.

    • 5

Insert the provided straw tip into a can of carburetor cleaner. Place the tip of the straw into each hole in the carburetor and spray some cleaner inside. Wipe the carburetor down with a clean rag. Spray some cleaner all around the outside of the carburetor and wipe it clean with a rag. Set the carburetor aside so it can dry.

    • 6

Clean the top and bottom of the carburetor with the cleaner and wipe them down. Repeat this with the diaphragm as well. Set these parts aside to air-dry.

    • 7

Place the top of the carburetor back onto the carburetor and secure with screws. Lay the diaphragm flat on the bottom of the carburetor. Place the back of the carburetor over the diaphragm and secure it in place with screws.

    • 8

Attach the gas lines back onto the carburetor and push the carburetor into the Poulan leaf blower. Place the cover you removed in Step 2 over the carburetor and use an Allen key to tighten the screws.

    • 9

Place the air filter back into the Poulan leaf blower. Put the air filter cover back onto the side of the leaf blower and push it until it snaps into place.
