How to Build a PVC Strawberry Planter

Set the PVC pipe into a miter box and cut the pipe with a fine-toothed saw to the length you would like your planter to be. Saw the ends so that they are level.

Cut holes around the PVC pipe with a drill fitted with a hole saw attachment large enough for your plants to be placed in the holes. Disperse the holes around the pipe so that none of the holes are parallel to one another. Drill a ½ inch drainage hole into the center of a PVC end cap. Place the PVC end cap onto the bottom of the PVC pipe.

Drill two small holes parallel to one another along the top of the PVC pipe with a drill and drill bit.

Paint the PVC pipe and cap with a spray-on plastic primer and paint; let dry. Attach a hanging chain to the PVC pipe by threading a metal key-chain hook through one of the pipe's parallel holes. Connect the last link of the chain to the key-chain hook. Repeat to attach the other end of the chain. Adjust the chain by snapping the metal key-chain hook's end onto higher chain links.

Roll a sheet of burlap material and slide it into the PVC pipe. Pour a layer of pebbles into the bottom of the PVC pipe. Pour potting soil into the PVC pipe, filling it to about 1 inch below the top.

Cut an X shape in the burlap that is lining the holes so that the soil can be reached with scissors. Create a hole to set your plants in. Set a strawberry plant in each hole by placing the roots into the hole and covering them with soil. Let the plant hang down the PVC pipe. Pour water slowly into the top of the planter until water comes out of the drainage hole in the bottom. Hang the planter in full sun. Water daily or when needed.
