How to Attach a Flagpole Bracket to Brick

Are you ready to show your patriotic spirit but don't have a place to fly your flag? Installing a flagpole bracket is an ideal way to fly a flag that makes for easy setup and take down. Mounting anything to exterior brick takes a little more planning than installing hardware on drywall or wood. Brick has a tendency to crumble when you drill into it and the screw holes will erode over time with pressure from the screws and the weight of whatever item you hung. Use the right tools and follow the correct steps to make hanging your flag outside simple and easy.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the bracket up on the brick wall to determine the height and position. While holding the bracket in place with one hand, use a pencil to mark the position of the holes.

    • 2

Drill a pilot hole at the pencil marks. Use a masonry bit to drill the holes rather than a regular drill bit. Regular drill bits are not strong enough to drill through brick. Choose a spot in the brick rather than the mortar. Mortar is more likely to crumble and will be less sturdy than the brick.

    • 3

Insert concrete or masonry anchors into the holes. Gently tap the anchors into place with a hammer.

    • 4

Position your bracket over the holes so that the screw holes are directly over the anchors. Insert screws into the masonry holes and use a screwdriver to twist them into place.
