The Best Ways to Cut Grass With a Snapper Lawn Mower

Snapper, Inc. is a U.S.-based company that manufactures both snow removal and lawn care equipment, including lawn mowers. The company offers walk behind, zero turn and riding lawn mowers. The methods you use to operate the different Snapper mowers in the best way are similar to the steps you follow for any type of lawn mower to effectively cut grass.
  1. Safety

    • While cutting grass with a Snapper lawn mower, remain safe and free from harm, while the mower stays free of damage. While you mow, lookout for any holes, especially in areas of high grass, which could trip you. Clean any objects such as tree limbs, sticks and large rocks from the lawn before mowing. When you encounter areas filled with gravel, such as driveways, turn the mower off before you cross them, or you risk the mower throwing out debris that could harm you or others. Don't cut the grass with the mower discharging grass directly against a wall or other large obstruction. The mower might discharge objects hidden in the grass that could ricochet and strike you.

    Slopes

    • If you encounter slopes while cutting the grass with the Snapper push mower, mow across the slope, instead of down it and pulling the mower back up. This way, you are less likely to slip and fall down the slope while mowing. If you are cutting with a Snapper riding mower, mow in the opposite manner, up and down the slope and not across it. Also, avoid making quick changes of direction while mowing slopes. Avoid slopes that are too steep to safely cut.

    Maintenance Chart

    • To keep the Snapper mower in the best condition, follow the maintenance schedule inside your mower's owner's manual. If you don't have it any longer, remember basic maintenance tasks, such as cleaning clippings and debris from the mower after each use. Clean underneath the mower deck as well as on top of it, so that clippings don't build up and eventually clog the blade. Check the engine's oil level after every eight hours of use, and clean the air filter after every 25 hours of use. Check the condition of the mower's belt and blade annually and also change the spark plug each year.

    Even Cuts

    • Ensure a level and even cut by making certain that each adjuster arm, which is found on each mower wheel, is set at the same position. If you change the position of one adjuster arm, change the position of all so that they match. Pull the top of the arm in toward the mower, and move it forward or back, to change its position and raise or lower the height at which the mower cuts the grass. If you find the Snapper mower cutting off repeatedly when you cut high grass, raise the height on each adjustment arm.
