How to Cut a Neat Edge of the Lawn

Mowing most of your lawn is typically not a difficult chore. This is the part of lawn maintenance that most homeowners don't usually need to think a whole lot about. When it comes to creating a neat edge for your lawn, which cannot be accomplished with a standard lawn mower, you might be at a loss, however. Don't fret, once you have the right tools and knowledge at your disposal, your lawn, and all its edges, will be the envy of the block.

Note all of the areas of your lawn that your mower cannot get to. This probably includes around your garden and other landscaping features, along walkways and beside your driveway. Up against your house might also be included.

    • 2

Cut down long lengths of grass that seem to be growing sideways using edging shears. These should be used at least once per week.

    • 3

Trim down the grass that is growing over edges, such as over the edge of your driveway, with a half moon edging spade. This will give a clean line between areas.

    • 4

Use a standard string trimmer to cut down grass that's growing around a tree trunk, along a garden or beside bushes.
