How to Make a Mug Herb Garden

### Supplies You Will Need:

* Two mugs or pots with drainage holes

* Saucer

* Potting mix

* Peat moss

* Seeds, such as basil, parsley, thyme, or rosemary

* Water

* Spoon

* Scissors

* Spray bottle

Step 1: Prepare the Pots

1. Place a saucer underneath each mug or pot to collect excess water.

2. Fill the bottom of each pot with about 1 inch of peat moss. This helps to keep the soil moist and prevents it from becoming compacted.

3. Add potting mix to each pot, leaving about an inch of space at the top.

4. Water the soil thoroughly until it is evenly moist.

Step 2: Plant the Seeds

1. Sprinkle the seeds evenly over the surface of the soil.

2. Cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil or peat moss.

3. Water the soil gently with a spray bottle to settle the seeds.

Step 3: Care for the Herb Garden

1. Place the mug herb garden in a sunny location, such as a windowsill or patio.

2. Water the plants regularly, keeping the soil moist but not soggy.

3. Fertilize the plants every few weeks with a liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength.

4. Pinch back the tips of the plants to encourage them to grow bushy.

5. Harvest the herbs when they are fresh and flavorful.

Tips for Growing Herbs in Mugs

* Choose herbs that are easy to grow and that you enjoy using in your cooking.

* Start your seeds indoors a few weeks before the last spring frost. This will give them a head start on growth.

* Transplant the seedlings into the mugs or pots when they are about 2 inches tall.

* Be sure to water the plants regularly, especially during hot and dry weather.

* Pinch back the tips of the plants to encourage them to grow bushy.

* Harvest the herbs when they are fresh and flavorful.
