How to Repair Impact Sprinklers

Low Pressure

  Unscrew the sprinkler head from the unit.

  Attach a water pressure gauge to the sprinkler body by screwing it on.

  Turn on the water. Compare the water pressure reading to the required water pressure outlined in your sprinkler's manual.

  Inspect the sprinkler head for any signs of debris.

  Place the impact sprinkler head in rust remover to remove rust and debris from the head which may reduce the pressure. Soak the head for 30 minutes then rinse it off with water.

  Spray the sprinkler unit with silicone spray before reassembling it.

Rotating Issues

  Remove the sprinkler head and inspect the head and body for any signs of debris or clogs.

  Soak the head and the body of the sprinkler in vinegar and water to remove any hard water deposits that may affect movement.

  Inspect the arm or body for signs of bending or damage. Replace the pieces if necessary.

  Remove the spring from the arm with a pair of needle-nose pliers if the spring has lost its tension. Replace the spring.

  Reassemble the sprinkler head and put it in place. Turn on the water supply to test the unit and ensure that it rotates.
