The John Deere 4100 is a compact lawn tractor. It can be used in several ways: as a mower, as a lifter and a puller. Its compact size makes it easier to store than a larger tractor while maintaining a great amount of the functionality. After a long winter, you may find your John Deere 4100 might not want to start. Instructions

    • 1

Check the fuel tank of the unit. Fill the tractor with fuel if nearly empty. Use diesel fuel, since the 4100 requires diesel as opposed to unleaded.

    • 2

Lift up the seat of the unit to check that the battery is properly connected.

    • 3

Lift up the hood of the unit and inspect the fuse. Unscrew it with a wrench. Inspect the body for signs of cracking or rust. Replace the fuse, if necessary, and the spark plug.

    • 4

Drain the gasoline from the tank and inspect the fuel filter inside. Replace it if it is full of dirt and debris. Diesel fuel often has bits that are caught by the filter.
