Instructions

    • 1

Clean the surface of your fountain thoroughly with cement cleaner, available at most hardware stores. If it is painted and peeling, remove old paint from the surface.

    • 2

Fill blemishes, nicks, bruises and small cracks with cement filler and smooth to obtain a finished surface. Follow directions on the label for application and drying time.

    • 3

Etch the surface of the concrete with muriatic acid to give it a good tooth so the surface finish will remain intact.

    • 4

Prime the surface of your Greek fountain with acrylic paint. Exterior latex pain works well. If you prefer to "antique" the surface, omit the primer.

    • 5

Paint over the primer with the colors and patterns you've chosen for your refinished fountain. If you prefer to "antique" the surface, thin your paint with water and apply several layers to the surface, allowing each to dry before adding the next one. The paint will be partly absorbed into the surface, creating an aged look. Continue to add layers of thinned paint until you obtain the finish you like.

Seal the surface of your finished paint job with paint sealer. Several coats of polyurethane will provide a solid finish that will last for a long time, even when water runs on the surface.
