How to Build a Fence Keep Small Animals Out of the Garden

Materials Needed:

- Wood, metal or plastic fence posts (depending on the desired fence type)

- Wire fencing (chicken wire, hardware cloth, etc.)

- Zip ties or nails (for attaching the fencing to the posts)

- Post hole digger

- Level

- Measuring tape

- String (for marking the fence line)

- Safety glasses

Instructions:

1. Plan the fence. Decide where you want the fence to go and how big it needs to be. Make sure to take into account the size of the small animals you are trying to keep out.

2. Set the posts. Dig holes for the posts, spacing them evenly. The holes should be deep enough to set the posts securely in the ground. Use the level to make sure the posts are straight as you set them in the holes. Backfill the holes and pack the dirt down firmly around the posts.

3. Attach the fencing. Unroll the fencing and attach it to the posts using the nails or zip ties. Start at the bottom and work your way up. Make sure the fencing is taut and secure so that small animals cannot get through.

4. Trim the fencing. Use a wire cutter to trim the fencing to size.

5. Inspect the fence. Make sure that the fence is properly secured and that there are no gaps or holes that animals could get through.

6. Enjoy your garden! Your new fence should keep small animals out of your garden and allow you to enjoy your plants in peace.
