- Water
- Jar or sprouting container
- Cheesecloth or mesh lid
Instructions:
1. Preparing the Seeds:
- Rinse the sesame seeds thoroughly with fresh water to remove any impurities.
2. Soaking the Seeds:
- Place the sesame seeds in a glass jar or a wide-mouth mason jar.
- Add enough water to cover the seeds by about an inch or two.
- Cover the jar with a cheesecloth or a mesh lid to allow air circulation.
- Let the seeds soak for 8-12 hours or overnight at room temperature.
3. Rinsing:
- After soaking, drain the water from the jar and give the seeds another thorough rinse with fresh water.
4. Sprouting:
- Drain the seeds well and transfer them back into the clean jar.
- Cover the jar again with the cheesecloth or the mesh lid.
- Place the jar in a warm, dark location and let the seeds start sprouting.
5. Monitoring the Sprouts:
- Rinse the seeds with fresh water twice a day, morning and evening.
- Make sure to drain the water thoroughly each time to prevent the seeds from becoming waterlogged.
6. Harvesting the Sprouts:
- Continue rinsing and draining the seeds until they develop tiny sprouts, usually within 2-3 days.
- The sprouts are ready to harvest when they reach about 1-2 inches in length.
7. Storing the Sprouts:
- Once the sprouts are ready, you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- Sprout lifespan may vary, but generally, they will stay fresh for up to a week.
Remember that the sprouting process will depend on factors such as temperature and humidity. Adjust the time accordingly if needed.
