- Seed-germination blanket
- Heavy object, such as a brick or stone
- Shovel
- Rake
- Water
Instructions:
1. Prepare the existing grass: Before laying down the seed-germination blanket, make sure the existing grass is mowed short and free of any debris.
2. Spread out the seed-germination blanket: Roll out the seed-germination blanket over the existing grass, making sure to smooth out any wrinkles or creases.
3. Weigh down the blanket: To ensure the blanket stays in place, weigh it down with heavy objects, such as bricks or stones.
4. Cover the blanket with soil: Using a shovel, spread a thin layer of soil (about 1/4 inch) over the seed-germination blanket. This will help to keep the blanket in place and provide a growing medium for the seeds.
5. Water the area thoroughly: Water the newly covered seed-germination blanket thoroughly, making sure to saturate the soil beneath. Keep the area consistently moist for the next several weeks to promote germination.
Tips:
- To prevent the seed-germination blanket from blowing away in high winds, you can also stake it down using tent stakes or landscape staples.
- If the area is prone to heavy rainfall, you may want to add a layer of mulch over the seed-germination blanket to help retain moisture and prevent erosion.
- Seed-germination blankets can be left in place for up to 6-12 months. Once the grass has fully established, you can remove the blanket by simply peeling it off.
