Instructions

Get rid of surface cigarette marks. Mix a small amount of linseed oil and cigarette ashes to make a paste. Apply the paste over the stain. Follow the direction of the wood grain and rub the paste lightly into the stain. If the mark does not disappear, repeat the process until the stain disappears. Wipe any residue left, and polish as usual.

Remove water stains with toothpaste. Apply a small amount of toothpaste on the stain. Take a damp rag and use small, circular motions to lift the stain. Use another damp rag to wipe off the toothpaste residue. Polish your furniture piece as usual. Another option is to cover the water stain with olive oil and spray your favorite furniture polish over it. Rub the mixture in with a cloth. As the mixture is absorbed into the wood, spray more furniture polish on the stain and continue rubbing it into the surface. Clean the surface with a rag once the stain disappears.

Iron out white heat stains from your wood furniture. Place a towel over the stain. Set your iron to steam and place it on the towel right over the stain. Wait approximately one minute and remove the iron and the towel. Wipe off any moisture on the piece of furniture. The white stain should be gone.

You might have to strip, sand and refinish a piece of furniture if the stain has penetrated deep into the wood

Refinish or repaint the furniture piece if the stain has penetrated through the finish and deep into the wood. Strip off the old varnish or paint and, most likely, sand the surface. Once you remove the spot, re-stain or repaint the surface and apply a new coat of varnish.
