How to Install Pivot Door Slides

One of the most versatile pieces of home cabinetry hardware is the sliding pivot hinge, which allows you to open your cabinet doors and then slide them back out of sight within the cabinet. This is absolutely ideal for entertainment centers and cabinets that house kitchen appliances, as moving the doors out of the way increases access to the appliance or television. This is useful especially for large doors that may block the view of those on the edges of the viewing area, and certainly block the view of whatever is kept on either side of the cabinet.

Instructions

    • 1

Position the two long hinge slides against the side panel of the cabinet. Arrange them so they are parallel to each other, about 3 inches from the top and bottom of the cabinet. Mark the positions of the attachment holes, remove the brackets and drill out the attachment holes. Use a drill bit that is slightly smaller in diameter than the wood screws that were included in the packaging. Attach the brackets in place with the included screws.

    • 2

Measure the distance between the brackets and subtract 1/4 inch. Cut a 1/2-by-3-inch board according to this measurement and position it between the two slides, underneath the follower board attachments. Consider this board the follower board.

    • 3

Attach the follower board by marking and drilling out the attachment screw positions of the follower board attachment. Reposition the follower board, and screw through the follower board attachments and into the follower board using the provided wood screws.

    • 4

Set the door against the hinges evenly so there is ample clearance above and below the door within the cabinet. Test the position of the door when the door is closed as well. Mark the hinge attachment holes on the door. Remove the door. Drill out the holes and attach the hinges to the repositioned door with the included attachment screws.

Repeat the attachment procedure for the other door board of the cabinet, lining up the two doors so that they are spaced evenly on the front of the cabinet.
