How to Make a Tunic out of Bed Sheet

## Tools and materials:

* A bed sheet (the size will determine the length of the tunic)

* Scissors

* A measuring tape

* A sewing machine or needle and thread

* Fabric chalk or a fabric marker

* Pins

Step 1: Prepare the bedsheet.

Wash the bedsheet before you start. Iron it to remove any wrinkles.

Step 2: Measure and cut the fabric.

To determine the width of the tunic, measure the circumference of your bust and add about 2 inches for seam allowances. For the length, measure from your shoulder to your desired hemline. Cut a rectangle from the bedsheet using these measurements.

Step 3: Sew the side seams.

Fold the rectangle of fabric in half widthwise, with the right sides together. Pin the side seams in place. Sew a seam along each side, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance.

Step 4: Hem the sleeves.

Fold the edges of the sleeves in 1/2 inch and press. Fold them in again 1/2 inch and press. Stitch in place.

Step 5: Hem the bottom of the tunic.

Fold the bottom of the tunic up 1 inch and press. Fold it up again 1 inch and press. Stitch in place.

Step 6: Add a neckline and armholes.

Determine where you want the neckline and armholes to be. Using a fabric chalk or marker, draw the outline of the neckline and armholes on the fabric. Cut out the neckline and armholes.

Step 7: Finish the edges of the neckline and armholes.

Fold the edges of the neckline and armholes in 1/2 inch and press. Fold them in again 1/2 inch and press. Stitch in place.

Step 8: Add sleeves (optional)

Cut two rectangles for sleeves. The length should be from your shoulder to your wrist, and the width should be about half the circumference of your upper arm. Sew the rectangles together along one long side, then gather the other long side and attach it to the armhole.

Step 9: Add a drawstring (optional).

Cut a piece of fabric about 2 inches wide and four times the width of the neckline. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise and press. Fold the raw edges in 1/4 inch and press. Stitch the fold in place.

Thread the fabric tube through the neckline casing, leaving about 6 inches of the cord hanging on one side. Tie the ends of the cord together to form a drawstring.

Step 10: Enjoy your new tunic!
