How Do I Remove Dog Odors From Furniture?

Living with a dog means going for walks, giving out treats, and sometimes dealing with the downside of having a pet: fur on the carpet, drool spots on the tile, and dog odor on your furniture.
  1. Dog Odor

    • Dog odors on your furniture can be caused by your pet sleeping on your couch while you are at work. If a dog has urinated on a piece of furniture, it could smell of dog urine.

    Removal

    • Cleaners that contain enzymes will break down dog odors and remove them. If you have a slipcover on your sofa, washing it will help. If not, odor-removing products that you can spray onto fabric and let dry will eliminate the smell of your dog.

    Considerations

    • To prevent the return of dog odors on your furniture, keep your dog off it by blocking favorite areas with magazines or baskets. If this does not work, keeping your dog well groomed with frequent brushing and occasional baths will cut down on the amount of hair and dander--and odor--your dog leaves on your furniture.
