Instructions

1. Measure and Cut Countertop Piece:

- Measure the desired length and width of the countertop extension using a tape measure.

- Mark these measurements on the laminate countertop using a pencil.

- Use a jigsaw to cut along the marked lines to create the new countertop piece.

2. Prepare Support Frame:

- Construct a simple frame using 1x4 pine boards to mount the countertop.

- Determine the desired height and depth for the frame.

- Cut the pine boards to the appropriate lengths and assemble the frame using wood screws.

3. Mount Support Frame:

- Attach the frame securely to the island or cabinetry where you want to add the countertop extension. Make sure the frame is well-mounted and sturdy.

- Use a level to ensure the frame is even and aligned correctly.

4. Install Countertop:

- Apply Liquid Nails construction adhesive to the top surface of the support frame.

- Carefully place the countertop piece onto the framed structure, making sure it aligns evenly with the existing countertop.

- Press down firmly to ensure good adhesion between the countertop and the support frame.

- Allow the adhesive to dry completely as per the product instructions before proceeding.

5. Secure Countertop:

- Drill holes through the countertop and into the support frame.

- Drive wood screws through the holes to secure the countertop in place.

- Make sure the screws are flush with the surface of the countertop.

6. Apply Edge Banding:

- To finish off the exposed edge of the new countertop, apply laminate edging.

- Cut the edging to the appropriate size and apply laminate adhesive to the back.

- Press the edging firmly along the exposed edge of the countertop.

- Repeat this process for all exposed edges.

7. Seal Joints:

- Use wood filler to fill in any gaps or seams between the countertop and the existing countertops.

- Allow the filler to dry completely and sand it smooth.

Additional Tips:

- When measuring for your new countertop extension, don't forget to account for any overhang you desire.

- Make sure you use a saw blade specifically designed for cutting laminate when trimming the countertop.

- Be careful not to overtighten the screws when securing the countertop to the frame, as this can damage the material.

- If you prefer, instead of using wood filler to seal the joints, you can use color-matched silicone caulk for a seamless finish.
