How to Make a Queen Bed Frame

A queen bed frame is a stylistic compliment to any decor. The bed frame gives enough space for a couple to lie in bed to both cuddle or have their own space. A queen-sized bed provides space for sleeping without taking up too much space in the room as a whole. Building a queen bed frame is not a difficult task if the proper tools and wood are provided. Choose a sturdy wood such as pine or maple.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach, with 3 1/8-inch wood screws, an 80-inch long 2-by-6 board, a side board, ten inches from the top of a 4-by-4 31 inches long, this is a head post. Repeat with another 80-inch 2-by-6 and 31-inch 4-by-4.

    • 2

Attach two support rails measuring 80-inch 2-by-4, with 3 1/8-inch wood screws, flush with the bottom of the sideboards, connecting the two sideboards. Place the support rails at points 20 inches from the end of the sideboards and at 50 inches from the same end of the sideboards.

    • 3

Router 4-inch square grooves in an 80-inch 2-by-4 support beam at 20 inches from the end and at 50 inches from the same end. Router a 4-inch square groove into two 8-inch long 2-by-4 blocks.

    • 4

Screw, with 3 1/8-inch wood screws, a block to the middle of one 60-inch long 2-by-6 headboard and the other block to the middle of one 60-inch long 2-by-6 foot-board.

    • 5

Use 1/4-inch screws to attach one half of a bedrail hanger to each of the four 4-by-4 posts, one inch from the top on the inside of board where the headboard and foot boards will go. Use 1/4-inch screws on the corresponding bedrail hanger halves to the ends of the headboard and foot board. Attach the corresponding bedrail parts to connect all four pieces of the queen bed frame.

    • 6

Place the support beam into the support blocks and over the support rails. This will fit very tightly, which makes for better support.

    • 7

Place the plywood base onto the inside of the queen bed frame. Finish the bed by staining or painting it whichever color desired, and allowing the stain to dry for 48 hours before putting mattresses or bedding on the frame.
