Measure your bed's width and add 2 to 3 inches, as headboards often extend slightly beyond either side.
Cut a piece of plywood to your desired width, using the measurement as a guide. Base the height on your personal preference, accounting for the fact that at least 2 feet will be behind the bed. Sand down the rough edges after cutting.
Paint both sides of the plywood in a light tan sandy color. Let dry.
Cut two pieces of bamboo to the exact length of the headboard. Apply a line of urethane adhesive to the top and bottom front of the plywood. Stick the bamboo pieces into place.
Measure the height between the two attached bamboo pieces. Cut enough bamboo pieces of this measurement to vertically fill the space between the two horizontal pieces. Attach with urethane adhesive.
Screw flush mounts into place on the back of the headboard and to the wall, after using a stud finder to locate a suitable spot. Slip the headboard into place on the flush mounts and slide the bed into place against the wall.
