Assembly Directions for Z-style Loft Bed

Z-style loft beds are typically designed using a metal frame that resembles a “Z” shape. The frames use an X-shaped cross brace frame to support both the bed and the desk and shelves or a dresser beneath, providing both a sleep surface and a work station or storage space. Assembly of this type of bed usually utilizes pre-drilled mounting holes and slide-lock assemblies for rails and accessories.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the adjustable legs into the openings in the bottom of the left- and right-side panels, which are the X-shaped assemblies topped by an end panel. Turn clockwise to tighten. Some beds may already have the legs installed.

    • 2

Line up the mounting bolts on the bottom of the left guard rail with the slots on the bed frame. Slide the rail forward to lock it in place. Repeat with the right guard rail. Some loft beds require that the guard rails be fastened to the frame using machine bolts. If there are holes on the rails instead of bolts, install the bolts through the rails and into the frame and tighten with an Allen wrench.

    • 3

Secure the left end panel to the assembled guard rail and bed frame by aligning the bolts on the end of the bed frame with the slots on the inside of the panel. Slide the bed frame downward to lock it in place. Repeat for the right end panel.

    • 4

Fasten the top of each end panel in place by inserting a machine bolt with washer through the top of the guard rail and then into the corresponding screw hole on the end rail. Tighten with the Allen wrench.

    • 5

Align the mounting holes in the end brackets of the horizontal cross brace at the base of the assembled bed frame. Fasten to the base of each end panel frame using two machine bolts with washers at each end.

    • 6

Attach the cross brace to the top and bottom of the rear of the assembled frame by sliding a machine bolt with washer through the brace and into the mounting holes on the frame. Tighten with the Allen wrench.

    • 7

Insert the mounting bolts on the top of the bookcase back panel, if provided with your bed, into the slots provided on the rear of the bed frame assembly. Slide the panel to the tapered end of the slot to lock the panel into place.

    • 8

Attach the desk top, if provided with your bed, to the assembled frame by inserting two machine bolts with washers through the mounting holes on the desk top and into the frame of the bed at the center of the cross braces. Tighten with the Allen wrench.

    • 9

Fasten the sides of the desk top to the end panels by sliding a bolt into the mounting holes on the panel and into the mounting hole beneath the desk top panel. Tighten using the Allen wrench.

    • 10

Insert a machine bolt into the two desk top mounting holes located beneath the bookcase back panel. Tighten into the bookcase panel using the Allen wrench.

    • 11

Insert a machine bolt into each of the mounting holes on the back of the bookcase back panel and into the corresponding holes on the top and bottom of each side panel. Tighten with the Allen key.

    • 12

Install the right and left drawer sides and the keyboard tray to bottom side of the desk top if provided with your bed.

    • 13

Line the ladder up with the mounting holes on the front of the bed frame. Insert the two machine bolts provided in through the frame and then into the ladder and tighten with the Allen wrench.

    • 14

Move your bed into the desired position, with the ladder facing out and then install your mattress. The mattress should rest no less than 5 inches below the top of the guard rails.
