How to Create Your Own Bed Set

A bed set (or bedroom set) finishes any bedroom, creating a serene space to find rest at the end of the day. Bedroom furniture is typically thought of as an entire collection of identically coordinating furniture. Thinking outside of the box and creating your own feel by mixing various pieces will create a stylish room all your own.

Attach the headboard to the bed frame. Headboards can be purchased for an affordable price from many home shopping networks or from discount furniture distributors, either online or in stores. Check around for easy payment plans. The headboard will come with instructions and the hardware needed to attach it to the bed frame. For a classic look, a button tufted one is a nice choice.

Add nightstands to each side of the bed. Shop antique stores for unusual examples of old trunks, mirrored chests of drawers or small end tables that will work as bedside tables. The key when choosing nightstands is functionality. If you like to read and want to store books close to the bed, then pick out pieces of furniture that have shelving built in. If a small lamp is all that is needed, then a couple of rustic trunks will add character to your space. Be creative.

Place the wooden bench or hope chest at the foot of the bed. Spare sheets and blankets can be stored in the chest if needed, or a bench will add a more simple look.

Position the dresser along a wall opposite the bed. The one piece of furniture in your set to invest good money in is the large chest of drawers. To tie in the look of your bed and nightstands when choosing a dresser, look for similar colors. If the nightstands are an espresso stain, choose a dresser with dark wood tones as well. It is not necessary to have everything exactly the same color, but keep within one or two shades of a color tone to make the room uniform.

Dress the bed in linens. According to My Home Ideas,"Fabulous linens help set an indulgent mood in your tranquil retreat." Sheets should be at least three hundred thread count or higher for durability and softness. A duvet cover with matching shams is a nice choice to add a modern appeal to the bedroom set. Finish the bedding by adding a richly colored throw at the end of the bed.
