How to Adhere Metal to Glass

Advances in modern adhesive technology have resulted in several glues that can stick metal and glass together. This enables the more creative to make wonderful art, jewelry or decorative mirrors or repair household items. When using adhesives on mirrors, ensure that they are designed for this purpose, as some glues will damage mirrors. If you are using clear glass, ensure that the dried adhesive is clear to prevent blemishes on your work of art.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean both surfaces with a sponge and soapy water. Ensure that the surfaces are free of oil, dust and dirt.

    • 2

Rinse the surfaces with clean water and dry with a soft cloth.

    • 3

Read the instructions on your adhesive. Some adhesives require no curing or activator. If this is the case, cover both surfaces with adhesive and press them together. Use the tissue to mop up any excess glue. Squeeze the two objects together for 30 seconds. Allow to cure for 24 hours.

    • 4

Paint on the activator if your adhesive requires one. The activator will be supplied with the adhesive. Paint the activator on one side four hours before application of the adhesive. Apply the adhesive to the other surface, and hold the two objects together for 30 seconds. Allow to cure for 24 hours.

Follow steps one through three if your adhesive requires UV curing. Then, once the two surfaces have bonded, place the item under a UV lamp. Leave the lamp on for five to 10 minutes, according to the instructions on your glue label.
