A dark enamel covered roaster is a great way to cook a turkey. It helps to keep the turkey moist and flavorful, and it also makes cleanup easy.
1. Choose a turkey that will fit comfortably in your roaster. A good rule of thumb is to allow about 1 pound of turkey per person.
2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
4. While the oven heats up, prepare your turkey. Remove any giblets or neck from the inside of the turkey, and rinse the turkey both inside and out with cold water. Pat dry the turkey with paper towels.
5. Season the turkey with salt, pepper, and any other desired herbs or spices.
6. Place the turkey breast-side up in the roaster. Add 1/2 cup of water to the bottom of the roaster, and cover with the lid.
7. Roast the turkey according to the following guidelines:
For a 12-14 pound turkey:
Cook for 3 1/2 to 4 hours, or until the internal temperature of the turkey reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
For a 15-18 pound turkey:
Cook for 4 1/2 to 5 hours, or until the internal temperature of the turkey reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
For a 19-22 pound turkey:
Cook for 5 1/2 to 6 hours, or until the internal temperature of the turkey reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
NOTE: Cooking times are approximate and may vary depending on the specific oven and turkey. It is important to use a meat thermometer to ensure that the turkey is cooked to the proper temperature.
8. Once the turkey is done, remove it from the roaster and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before carving.
Enjoy!
