The Stove Height of Wall Kitchen Cabinets

Common Dimensions

• The common height of a stove is approximately 30 inches. This is slightly lower than the standard floor cabinet height, so stoves are built into the cabinet frame to lift them a few inches off the ground, according to Dynamic Living. The lift also ensures proper ventilation, since all sides are covered except the front of the oven. With this lift, cooks do not have to bend down to remove food from the oven, which is often part of the stove unit. Base Cabinet Heights

• Floor-based cabinets are those located on the kitchen floor and underneath the kitchen counter top. These are often located beside the kitchen stove and oven. The general height of these floor cabinets is 34 1/2 inches. This measurement includes the entire storage cabinet and the toe-kick where the cabinet rests. A stove and oven may not measure 24 inches in depth depending on the manufacturer, but all appliances need space behind the unit for proper ventilation. One solution is to raise the 30-inch stove up a couple of inches to reach the cabinet height of 34 1/2 inches.

Upper Stove Cabinets

• Kitchen cabinets mounted above the stove are smaller than the standard cabinets, as the stove expels heat and steam from pots and pans during cooking. The height of these stove cabinets is a mere 15 inches, and they are mounted high on the wall, if the height of the stove is the common 30 inches in height. However, they are just as deep and wide as the standard upper cabinets, which is 12 inches deep and anywhere from 12 to 48 inches wide.

Corner Cabinets

• If the stove and oven is located in a tight area, you may not have enough space to have regular base cabinets beside the oven. It may be necessary to use corner cabinets instead. A lazy Susan cabinet is a 90-degree cabinet structure the same 34 1/2 inches in height as the regular cabinets. Corner wall cabinets are those that are installed at a 45-degree angle. These are commonly slightly higher at 40 inches.
