How to Install a Cricket Roof

Install the horizontal ridge of the cricket frame. The ridge sits between the angled potions of the cricket, in the middle of the cricket. It sits flat against the chimney. Push the horizontal ridge so it is flat against the chimney. Attach it to the roof using a hammer and nails. Insert nails at a 45 degree angle. The nails should drive the side of the ridge into the roof.

Attach the long plywood plank of the cricket frame. This long piece of plywood should be about 3/4 inch thick and should be 2 inches wide and 4 feet long. The longest side of the wood should be perpendicular to the chimney and parallel to the roof. The plank should be slightly taller than it is thick. Attach it to the ridge using a hammer and nails. Insert nails at a 45 degree angle. The nails should drive the side of the plank into the front of the ridge.

Install the long, triangular sides of the cricket using a hammer and nails, one at a time. Place one of the triangular planks against the long plank, so the triangular plank touches the surfaces of the roof on one side and the long plank on the other. Hammer the side to the long plank in the middle of the cricket. The nails should drive through the top of the triangular plank, into the long plank.

Attach an ice or water shield to the cricket. These shields should have an adhesive side. Peel off the adhesive backing and stick the shield on the cricket. Push the shield onto the roof and the adhesive will automatically attach to the roof. The shield should run directly from the cricket to the roof and directly from the cricket to the chimney.
