The Types of Vent-Free Gas Heaters

Vent-free gas heaters come in several different forms and work because of 99 percent fuel-efficient burners. This is accomplished through advanced air/gas mixing chambers, burners and other features which allow the units to burn more fuel with less unused by-products. In vented heaters, the by-products not burned off by the heater go up the chimney or out the vent. Because of the clean and efficient fuel consumption found in vent-free heaters, no vent or chimney is necessary. These heaters emit only five to seven particles of carbon monoxide per hour compared with regular gas stoves that emit 50 particles per hour. This meets or exceeds nationally recognized guidelines for indoor air quality.
  1. Blue Flame Heaters

    • Blue flame heaters are wall mounted and come in both natural gas and propane models. Blue flame propane models require at least a 100-pound propane tank. No electricity is required for these types of vent-free heaters, as they operate with a push-button spark ignition. Space-saving blue flame heaters mount on any wall. Blue flame heaters work by warming the air in the room and will heat a space up to 1,000 square feet, depending on the model.

    Vent Free Infrared Heaters

    • Vent-free infrared heaters use radiant plaques to warm the room where they are located. These types of vent-free heaters heat the objects in the room instead of the air. This produces natural warmth like that which comes from the sun. Infrared heaters come in both natural gas and propane and require at least a 100-pound propane tank for propane models. Infrared heaters are wall-mounted, require no electricity and heat spaces up to 1000 square feet, depending on the model. Most come with one to three setting according to the number of plaques on the heater.

    Vent Free Gas Fireplaces

    • Vent-free gas heaters also come in the form of fireplaces. Gas fireplaces heat rooms in the same way as the blue flame heaters by warming the air in the room. Gas fireplaces come as ceramic logs, ceramic logs with firebox or as a complete fireplace kit with mantel. The ceramic logs sit over the burner to give the appearance of flames coming from logs. Gas fireplace boxes can also be used to convert natural fireplaces to gas. Gas fireplaces come with a remote control to adjust the heat output and flame height. Some models come with a thermostat that automatically controls the flame height based on the desired temperature. Vent free gas fireplaces can be used on any wall and require no electricity.
