The Types of Parade Roses

Miniature Parade roses (Rosa x hybrida) originated beginning in 1981 with the European plant grower Poulsen Roser, located in Denmark. The firm specializes in breeding and developing new types of roses. This particular line of miniature roses was developed to grow indoors, but they also do well in the garden. Poulsen Roser licenses growers throughout the world to produce their trademarked Parade roses, and they are widely available.
  1. General Description

    • Parade roses are usually available in 4-inch pots. These miniature roses are bushy, vigorous and free-flowering with good continuity of bloom. Although foliage, growth form and flowers are on a miniature scale, buds and flowers are well-formed and abundant and the roses can flower in winter. You can transfer the original plants into bigger containers as they grow or transfer them to the garden. Miniature roses are hardy in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 6b through 9b. Parade roses are grown on their own roots rather than grafted, and come in many colors. Pouslen Roser has introduced over 80 Parade cultivars.

    Pink and Mauve Parade Roses

    • The first Parade rose introduced was pink-flowered "Teeny Weeny." "Fashion Parade" is medium-pink with a small bloom form, and "Heidi Parade" has orange-pink flowers. "Nicola Parade" has medium-sized, very full flowers with pink-and-white-striped petals. "Fiesta Parade" is deep pink with a mild fragrance. The mauve to purple blend "Lamy Parade" has a very double flower -- that is, it has extra petals -- and a mild, wild rose fragrance. "Andrea Parade" is also mauve to purple with small full flowers.

    Red and Orange Parade Roses

    • Medium-red flowers grace "Karina Parade," and "Scarlet Parade" displays dark red blooms. Both these have mild to no fragrance. Parade roses with orange blend flowers include "Bahia" and "Liberty." Bahia has deep orange colors and "Liberty" tends more toward peach tones, and both flowers are double. "Hit Parade" has large semi-double orange blend flowers with about 16 petals. "Memory Parade" and "Jenna Parade" exhibit apricot or apricot-blend flowers.

    Yellow and White Parade Roses

    • "Jello Parade" displays deep yellow flowers, as does "Rainbow Yellow Parade" and "Yellow Parade." "Vinca Parade" has a mild, wild rose fragrance and medium-yellow blooms. The yellow petals of "Rosita Parade" are edged with red, and "Sonja" exhibits several shades of yellow. White Parade roses include "Jeanne d'Arc," "Clara" and "Mette." "Frosty Parade" has the white petals touched with pink and very large, full flowers. "Denise Parade" is white with yellow undertones.
