Electric Underfloor Heating Installation

You can use electric underfloor heating to heat many types of floors in your home. It is especially useful in bathrooms under tile or in living spaces under laminate flooring. Underfloor heating will augment your current heating system, but will not replace it. To install underfloor heating you will need an electric heat system with cables implanted in a mesh system. This should be available at your locate building supply store. You will also need a 15- to 20-amp ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) for the system. You may need to hire an electrician to install the GFCI first.

      Place the electric underfloor system with the wiring and mesh on top of the subfloor.

      Use the shears to cut the the mesh to the dimensions of the floor. Test the system before you proceed by plugging it into the GFCI outlet.

      Affix the mesh to the subfloor with staples using the the staple gun.

      Mix the dry cement with water in the pail according to the directions on the package. Spread the mixed cement over the electric underfloor system evenly with the trowel. Allow the cement to dry completely.

      Connect the plug from the system to the GFCI outlet. The underfloor system is now complete and you can install your new flooring on top of it.
