Instructions

    • 1

Position your canoe on the garage floor directly below where you want to hang the boat.

    • 2

Use the stud finder to locate ceiling joists above the canoe. Mark spots on the joists so the hooks are two to three feet apart directly above the bow and stern thwarts. Thwarts are the tube-like cross-members across the width of the canoe between the gunwales.

    • 3

Predrill the holes for the screw eyes and screw them in place. Screw two flag cleats to a stud in the wall near the front of the boat. Screw two more flag cleats to a stud in the wall near the other end of the boat.

    • 4

Cut the rope into four 20-foot sections and tie a hook to each rope. Thread the ropes through the corresponding eyes in the ceiling.

    • 5

Flip the canoe upside down and hook the first pair of hooks from the outside of the hull with the hooks extending under the gunwales in front of the forward thwarts.

    • 6

Pull the two forward ropes at the same time to elevate the bow about halfway to the ceiling. Tie the ropes off to the flag cleats on the wall.

    • 7

Hook the rear hooks from the other two ropes to the gunwales of the canoe from the outside of the hull. Pull both ropes together to elevate the aft section of the boat clear to the final position against the ceiling. Tie off the ropes to the flag cleats.

    • 8

Loosen the forward ropes and raise the bow of the canoe all the way to ceiling to match the back of the canoe, and tie the ropes off on the flag cleats.
