How to Hang a Sling From a Ceiling

A sling is a cozy piece of fabric that provides an alternative to a chair. Slings are similar to hammocks, except they are more constrictive. Slings hanging from the ceiling can also serve as swings for children in an indoor play area. Some slings may come with specific mounting hardware to assist in the hanging process, but all sling installations require a few basic steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Run a stud finder across the ceiling to find a suitable location. Hanging the sling from a stud is vital to ensure the sling won't fall once weight is applied. Once you locate a stud, mark its location with a pencil. Use an exposed beam or door frame if possible, as these areas are strongly reinforced.

    • 2

Hold a wood screw swing hanger up to the area of the ceiling where the stud or beam is located. Use a pencil to draw a mark at the locations of the four screw holes. Form starter holes for the wood screws with a drill at the location of the marks.

    • 3

Place the swing hanger over the starter holes and install four woods screws with a screwdriver. Use screws that are at least 2 inches long.

Attach your sling's specific hanging hardware to the hook that extends from the wood screw swing hanger.
